Total Impact Rating
Plus/minus falls short as an evaluation tool for several reasons, mainly because it favors players on good teams. Attempts to
improve plus/minus, such as adjusted plus/minus, are better metrics but still not ideal. Total Impact Rating
goes further toward determining a player's impact on team performance.
Total Impact Rating (TIR) compares team performance with a skater on the ice versus when he's off in all
situations: even strength, penalty killing, and the power play. This metric adjusts for both his team's
strength and his time on ice.
